Live the mystery.

... if we want a God we can prove, or an incarnation we can prove, aren't we making an idol, rather than falling on our knees in awe of the wonderful mystery?

It's a lot easier, a lot safer (in finite terms) to worship an idol than to expose ourselves to the fire of the eternal God -- not the flames of hell, but the flames of love. Perhaps that's why some of the best theology is found in story. (Madeleine L'Engle)

For the desire of a deeper sense of God’s presence in the every day moments of life.

Failure is always temporary, but giving up makes it permanent.

Sometimes we end up taking a different path but it was worth it.

Frustration is excellent soil for growing a demanding spirit.

We pray, asking God to hear our cry, pleading with Him to let nothing else go wrong.  I wonder if sometimes the passion in our prayers reflects more of a demand than a petition.  Frustration is excellent soil for growing a demanding spirit.  It is therefore important that we handle difficulties well, allowing them to mature us rather than to push us toward demandingness.

The beginning of a proper response to frustrating circumstances is a clear recognition of who's in charge.  To handle frustration by reminding ourselves how much God loves us is a good second step, but not the first one.  We must take our place as a creature before our Creator and then explore the wonder of our Creator's loving character.  An awareness of God's love casts out our fear, but subjection to His authority deals with our demandingness. Oftentimes worship is worshipped.

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

Never. Lose. Hope.

Those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

For the first time in my life, I like to pray. I don't find it boring. And it's because I'm now seeing that relational prayer, praying to know God and to enjoy being known by Him, supplies the right kind of passion for petitionary and thanksgiving prayers, for asking God to give me what I desire and for thanking Him for every blessing I receive. (L. Crabb)

Now you've got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
I'm on the right way. (Psalm 16:11)

Well are you?

Sitting describes our position with Christ in the heavenlies. Walking is the practical out-working of that heavenly position here on earth. (W. Nee)

Are you worn out, confused and soul thirsty?

Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

When we don't connect, we feel empty.  We were designed to connect by a connecting God.  Anything less leaves us with an awful ache that we mightily wish wasn't there.  The ache can be so bad that whatever relieves it, even for a moment, can seem good. (L. Crabb)

Jesus is way more radical than I used to think...

Love one another as I have loved you.

Love is as love does.

When people ask me what it looks like to follow Jesus, I usually say that following Him looks like dealing with all of the issues everyone else does – disappointments, tremendous joy, uncertainty, the whole bit – and having your mind change all the time as you learn how Jesus would’ve dealt with things. Following Jesus is about having your paradigms shift as you navigate a wide range of emotions while living the big life Jesus invites us into. (B. Goff)
